Y Fan (also known locally as Van Mansion) is a Grade II listed Tudor mansion house having undergone substantial restoration to a high standard since our purchase of the property in 2017. It is one of the most important mansion houses in Glamorgan with a recorded history going back to 1529.

Dominating an impressive 30 acre site, Caerphilly Castle is Wales’ largest and Britain’s second largest castle behind Windsor. With towers to explore, a maze to negotiate, a dragon’s den and the grandness of The Great Hall to discover; Caerphilly Castle offers the perfect playground for budding historians.
This medieval fortress was built mainly between 1268 and 1271 by Gilbert de Clare. Known as Gilbert ‘The Red’ because of his red hair, denoting his Norman heritage, he built the castle to take control of Glamorgan and to prevent the Welsh Prince Llewellyn ap Gruffudd from achieving his southward ambitions.
The Taff Trail is easily accessible and there is a mountain biking park only 5 minutes away. There are two golf courses in Caerphilly and a number of other courses within easy travelling distance. Pen y Fan is approximately a 40 minute drive away. The property provides the perfect base from which to explore and enjoy the many delights of South Wales.
Named after local Welsh figures, the Ifor Bach, Owain Glyndwr, Gruffydd the Fair and The Green Lady bedrooms are a good size (some very large!) each with an en-suite bathroom featuring rainwater shower
